Gypsum
Within our thermal treatment process, much attention is paid to the optimal cleaning of the released flue gases. The goals we have set for ourselves are that no waste products are created during the treatment process and that we comfortably comply with the applicable requirements.
Tar-containing asphalt contains a lot of sulphur. This sulphur burns and forms sulphur oxide. To remove this sulphur oxide, REKO opted for a so-called wet flue gas scrubber, in which the sulphur oxide is converted into gypsum by using lime.
For some time now, REKO has been supplying the gypsum produced to the gypsum processing industry, which uses it to make plasterboard and anhydrite. These products are widely used in construction for new buildings and renovations. Thus, this flow is for a 100% reused too.
