Bituminous roofing felt
In addition to tar-containing asphalt, REKO also processes tar- and bituminous roofing to a high grade.
Tar- and bituminous roofing felt often contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). In the thermal treatment plant, these PAHs are completely destroyed by high-temperature incineration.
The hot flue gases released in this incineration process are used to generate steam and electricity, just as they are when processing tar-containing asphalt. Then they are cleaned in the flue gas cleaning system. The energy content in the tar- and bituminous roofing felt also provides a significant saving in the consumption of natural gas required for the thermal cleaning of asphalt. The recovery of energy and its beneficial use leads to huge reductions in CO2 emissions.
